  • What is a Gate Valve?

A gate valve is used to isolate media in a line by closing off the line. This is most commonly achieved through turning a hand wheel but can also have other types of actuation.

  • How does a Gate Valve work?

A gate valve works by lowering a gate down into the pipe until it reaches the bottom of the valve. It has guides either side of the wedge/gate that keep it retained within the body of the valve. The raising and lowering can be achieved by either a rising or non rising stem. This is usually connected to a manual handwheel but can also have a gear box or other types of actuation. They can come in many different materials including cast iron and cast steel and also in resilient seated (soft seat) or metal seated variants.

  • How long will my Gate Valve last?

This really depends upon the type of gate valve used and its environment it is operating in. For instance a resilient seated gate valve on clean water that is not cycled very often may well last decades. However a gate valve on a corrosive media that is cycled regularly may wear out in a much shorter time period.

  • How do I install a Gate Valve?

Most gate valves are bi directional meaning they can operate in any direction of flow. They can also operate on any directional plane meaning theoretically they can be installed upside down. In practice it is best to have it the right way up if possible. They can also be flanged or threaded models so the installation method will vary according to the connection. Larger flange units can be quite heavy so it is best to be supported during installation and operation.

  • What are typical uses of a Gate Valve?

Gate valves are used widely across multiple industries. Anywhere where isolation is needed in a pipeline a gate valve may be used. You can most commonly see gate valves in civil water works.

  • How long will my product take to get to me?

This depends upon where you are based and the freight method chosen. If the express freight option is selected it is usually next day delivery to metropolitan areas in Australia for under 5kg. If free freight has been selected it will go by road freight which can be anywhere from 1 to 10 days depending upon your location. It usually averages 3 days.

  • What warranty do I get?

All of our products come standard with a 12 month warranty. The good news is we have very strict quality controls and all valves leave our warehouse tested (full material and testing certificates to API598 are available) and inspected so there are rarely any issues.
